Appleseed Community Theatre

Program Description

Started in 2002, the Appleseed Community Theatre became an HCP partner program in January of 2011. Appleseed Community Theatre provides opportunities for La Crescent area youth and adults to participate in the theatrical experience, as actors, volunteers, production staff, and audience members. Appleseed produces two productions each year including their summer show which has 6-8 performances and utilizes 100+ volunteers including actors, stage and production crew, musicians, and others. Appleseed is run by a volunteer committee and pays small stipends to directors and others for each show.

Description: This Halloween, will it be a trick or a treat? Henry James’s epic supernatural and psychological thriller, adapted for the stage especially for Appleseed Community Theatre, follows the strange and frightening journey of Miss Linden, a governess convinced her young wards are haunted. But… are they? Set in the New England countryside at the turn of the 20th Century, audiences will find out the century isn’t the only thing turning.

The Lion King Jr. – Performance dates: August 24 & 25 at the La Crescent High School Fine Arts Center. This will be our three week kids camp for children going into Kindergarten through 8th grade. Registration will be through Community Education.

Disney’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world and now, for the first time ever, your children have the opportunity to produce this one-of-a-kind musical in Appleseed’s summer kids’ theater camp through La Crescent-Hokah Community Education. The African savannah comes to life on the stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle… and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.

Description: Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

Description: Norman is a curmudgeon with an estranged relationship with his daughter Chelsea. At Golden Pond, he and his wife nevertheless agree to care for Billy, the son of Chelsea’s new boyfriend, and a most unexpected relationship blooms.
