Neighbors Day

Program Description

An annual one-day event that serves older adults and other individuals who need assistance with spring yard work. Volunteers work in teams to rake lawns and wash windows. Each year the Neighbors Day Committee has coordinated approximately 200 community volunteers to make this day a reality. Volunteer teams include families, businesses, service organizations and church and school groups. Through their tremendous support, they served an average of 80 households in La Crescent each year since the event started in April of 2006.

Neighbors Day News and Upcoming Events

Neighbors Day is back! April 17, 2021 from 8 a.m. to noon.

We are happy to hold a modified Neighbors Day this year. Keeping community members safe is our priority, so CDC guidelines and Minnesota’s Stay Safe Plan are guiding this year’s plans. Here’s what’s changed:

  • Job assignments, registration and tool pick-up will take place outside at the La Crescent Ice Arena parking lot.

  • No food will be served.

  • Whenever in contact with others from outside of your household, volunteers participating in Neighbors Day must:

      • Consistently and properly wear a face mask or shield

      • Maintain a distance of 6 feet from others

      • Avoid sharing tools

      • Avoid sharing transportation.

      • NOT participate if they have symptoms of Covid-19 or have been exposed to anyone who has Covid-19

Now is the time to start getting your team together and join in this community-wide event – you can help by raking yards for your neighbors that could use an extra hand. Please encourage others you know to join in! To register your team, email lacrescentneighborsday2006@gmail.com or call Betsy Knowles at 895-8866 by April 5 - we will get back to you with additional details

La Crescent Neighbors Day is a partner program of La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership, cosponsored by the City of La Crescent, and partners with ISD #300 Community Education. And it’s all made possible with your help!
